Thanks to God that I can stand in front of you all with
blessings and mercies. My name is .... In this very nice
occasion I would like to present my thoughts about “Preserving National Culture
and Heritage”.
First of all, we should have the same definition of what
national culture and heritage actually are. National culture is the value
system and pride associated with a nation. Meanwhile, heritage is the legacy
of physical artifacts and intangible attributes of a group or
society that are inherited
from past generations, maintained in the present for the benefit of future
generations.
As
we all know, In Indonesia there are many kind of national culture and heritage.
From the west in Sumatra until the east in Papua, Indonesia has so many
different culture that is unique and special.
For example, Javanese people have so many ceremonies about baby birth
celebration and Torajaand Balinese people have a big ceremony when someone
dies. Indonesia also has so many different types of traditional uniqueness;
every race has their own clothing, food, language, and culture. These are only
a few example of how rich is Indonesia in national culture. The wonderful thing
is that the difference doesn’t make Indonesia breaks apart but together walks
in the harmony.
The
question that bothers is,“how to preserve our national culture and heritage?”
The
very first thing we need to do is tolove our national culture and heritage. We
have to embrace it. We can go visiting the museum where the history of our
country is documented, and visit more historic places to know more about
Indonesia’s history. More than that, actually there are many incredible and
amazingsites in Indonesia that everybody should visit like temple. A few years
ago Borobudur temple was included in the Seven Wonders of the World. This is such
an honor for Indonesia, and once in a while we have to visit and embrace them too. There’s an irony when many Indonesians want to visit
and enjoy the other country culture, but they cannot see how beautiful is our
country culture. We have to change our
mindset and see how wonderful Indonesia actually is.
The
ignorance of people in Indonesia about our culture makes frequent cultural
claims happened in the past few years. So archiving national culture and
heritage are very important things that our country need to do. Because when
our culture is well archived, it makes other countries think twice before
wanting to claim them.
Well
ladies and gentlemen, that’s all my thoughts about preserving national culture
and heritage that I can deliver, please forgive me if there’s mistakes here and
